The Great Middlemarch Mystery: Community Workshops

Do you live in Coventry or the West Midlands and want to be part of our 2022 immersive theatre experience, The Great Middlemarch Mystery?

We’re inviting local residents to play a key role in shaping the story The Great Middlemarch Mystery tells about Coventry by being one of its cast of 'Middlepeople'.

Part-actor and part-steward, the Middlepeople will guide audience members through the experience. In a series of four research and development workshops, the first of which takes place on 9 September, our creative team including director Josephine Burton will work with participants to devise roles for themselves and develop methods of interacting with audiences, using a variety of role-play, script-writing, movement and performance. Covid health and safety measures will be in place throughout the workshops.

We would like for our Middlepeople to be representative of the cultural and social diversity of Coventry. We would particularly love to hear from anyone who works with local communities that are often under-represented or have limited access to the arts, who would be interested in bringing a group. Participants will be empowered to give voice to the stories they wish to tell and step into a role they have chosen for themselves.

We hope that a number of participants will choose to continue this journey and perform as the Middlepeople in the production itself from 1 - 10 April 2022, alongside the professional cast, with all expenses paid for.

Details for first workshop:

Thursday 4 November 2021, 6.30pm - 9pm
Venue: St Michael's House at Coventry Cathedral,11 Priory Row, Coventry CV1 5EX

If you live in Coventry or the West Midlands and you’d like to register your interest in the workshop, please email info@dasharts.org.uk by 1 November at the latest with the subject line ‘Middlemarch workshop’.

Workshop spaces are limited. If you are not available for the November workshop, you are welcome to register your interest for one of the next workshops taking place in early 2022.
