Layers and Layers of Life

When you progress through life, you put on and take off layers. This could be in the form of clothes and coats, but if one looks more deeply, one would find that the layers also come in the form of moral values, culture, feelings, relationships, entertainment, environment, politics and faith. It can be interesting how each layer brings out different views and opinions on life.

Skin acts as a protective layer that covers each of us and defines where we, as individuals, begin and end. The colour of skin has also become a defining feature for who we each are and how others see us. But skin is also porous and it allows things through. It allows us to feel our world and to communicate with this world. Just like a snake sheds its skin and renews it, we are each constantly changing in terms of our viewpoints and ideas. This becomes a continuous, never-ending cycle and we can never predict the outcomes but follow these changes regardless.

A boy sleeps innocently but he doesn’t realise that so much is changing in his surroundings as well as in his dreams. A baby rests soundlessly under the comforting skin, in the womb of its mother. But as it ages and it is time to come out of the shell, it has to adapt to the changed environment.
